George Roussos (Birkbeck College, University of London)

George Roussos is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Computer Science and Information Systems, Birkbeck College, University of London. At Birkbeck, George conducts research in pervasive computing with special focus on the effects of social activity on system architectures and exploring mechanisms to support navigation and findability. He is best known for pioneering work on the design and development of item-level RFID pervasive computing systems.


Before joining Birkbeck, George held positions as the Research and Development Manager for a major multinational corporation based in southern Europe; as a Research Fellow at Imperial College; and as the Internet Systems Security Officer for the Greek Ministry of Defence. In these posts, he has made contributions in: search and navigation algorithms for pervasive computing environments; the architecture of the Urban Tapestries pervasive public authoring system; distributed algorithms for the rapid computation of Radial Basis Functions; the development of the Sensor Cubes platform for wireless senor networks; stochastic growth models for peer-to-peer and wireless networks; the multiplayer game of life; tele-care and healthcare informatics; and systems software for smart phones in pervasive computing.
