Peter Grindrod (University of Reading)
Peter Grindrod’s career began in academia, working in Mathematics at Oxford where he held an Advanced Fellowship in nonlinear (reaction diffusion) systems. Following this he worked in industry and commerce for twenty years, returning in 2007 to academia at the University of Reading. In 1998 he co-founded Numbercraft Limited, a self-funded start-up supplying business insights based on the analysis of vast databases for companies within the retail, consumer goods and media sectors. Numbercraft worked with leading retailers and brands on flagship assignments, including customer insight and management, marketing, on-line development, and strategic pricing, promotion, new product and ranging topics. It developed a channel partner strategy embedding IP into others' products and services. Numbercraft was a five year project and exited on time through a trade sale to a US software company.

Peter was a member of Council of EPSRC and Chair of its User Panel (2000-04). He has recently been the president of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (the UK's professional body for maths with more than 5000 members within industry, education and academia). He was awarded a CBE for services to maths R&D in 2005.

He is presently working on two embrionic start-up ventures: one using ABMs to forecast customer/consumer behaviour; and one providing risk profiles based on mobile banking behaviour in Africa and developing economies to drive/enable financial inclusion.
