Gabriella Giannachi (Exeter University)

Gabriella Giannachi is Associate Professor in Performance and New Media, and Director of the Centre for Intermedia at the University of Exeter, which promotes advanced interdisciplinary research in performance and the arts through collaborations between artists, academics and scientists from a range of disciplines. She was subcontracted in Presenccia - Presence: Research Encompassing Sensory Enhancement, Neuroscience, Cerebral-Computer Interfaces and Applications (2006/7, EU, Sixth Framework Programme), and was member of CEMP, funded by AHRC, DTI, and Arts Council, and led by the Media School at Bournemouth University (2006/8) to investigate creativity in media management, consumers and gaming, television production, and computer animation.

 

She is currently CI in ‘Performing Presence’, a four year AHRC funded investigation of presence in live, mediated and simulated environments developed in collaboration with the Metamedia Lab at Stanford University and the Department of Computer Science at University College London. Her book publications include: Virtual Theatres: an Introduction (2004); The Politics of New Media Theatre (2007); Performing Presence: Between the Live and the Simulated, co-authored with Nick Kaye (Manchester: MUP, forthcoming 2010).
